All About Pregnancy Shoots
Pregnancy is a fleeting chapter — a mix of anticipation, change, and quiet wonder. It passes faster than it feels, and before long, you’re holding the moment that once only lived in your imagination.
That’s why maternity sessions are so special. They freeze this in-between time — not just how you look, but how you feel.
When should it happen?
Most pregnancy photoshoots happen between weeks 28 and 34. By then, your bump is beautifully round and visible, but you still have enough energy to move comfortably and enjoy the session.
Of course, every pregnancy is different. Some women feel great later on, others prefer to do it a bit earlier. The key is to find the moment when you feel your best — balanced between comfort and confidence.
What Really Matters: Comfort, Energy & Milestones
Beyond timing, think about how you feel.
Comfort: You want to be able to move, sit, and breathe easily. When your body feels good, it shows in your posture and expression.
Energy: The shoot should feel like a celebration, not an effort. If you’re more energized in the morning or prefer calm evening light, plan around that.
Milestones: Some people love to schedule their session around a personal date — the start of the third trimester, a birthday, or just before a baby shower. It adds a personal rhythm to the photos and makes the memory more meaningful.
Choosing the Right Setting
Each location creates a different atmosphere.
Nature: Open spaces, gentle light, and soft colors bring a sense of calm. Parks, fields, or seaside locations feel airy and peaceful — perfect for light fabrics and natural movement.
Home: Intimate and familiar, home sessions capture genuine warmth — the small gestures, the textures of your space, the quiet anticipation. They often feel like a soft pause in time, honest and personal.
What to Wear
Choose outfits that make you feel both beautiful and comfortable. Flowy dresses, soft knits, or fitted pieces that highlight your bump photograph well. Neutral or earthy tones — creams, browns, pastels, or muted colors — tend to keep the focus on you rather than the clothes.
Avoid tight bands or stiff fabrics that might restrict movement or leave marks. And if your partner joins, coordinating tones (not matching exactly) helps create harmony in the photos.
If you’re unsure, I’m always happy to help you plan your outfits — from colors to textures — so everything feels effortless and true to you.
Including Your Partner
Many expectant parents love to make the session a shared experience. Having your partner join can add tenderness and connection — a hand on your belly, a shared laugh, a quiet look. These small moments often become the most meaningful images.
Even if just a few shots include both of you, they help tell the full story of this season together.
Plan Ahead So You Can Enjoy the Day Fully
Pregnancy doesn’t always follow a perfect schedule, and that’s okay. Planning your shoot a few weeks in advance gives you time to choose the right timing, location, and outfit — so the day itself can be calm and enjoyable.
When the session arrives, your only job is to be present — to enjoy, to breathe, and to let the moment unfold. Because one day, you’ll look back on these photos and remember not just how you looked, but how it felt to be waiting.
